Turf Replacement Program
$2 per square foot up to 50,000 square feet of conversion per meter per year
The intent of the Turf Replacement program is to have businesses remove their existing grass and to replace it with organic, drought tolerant landscaping. Please note, synthetic turf is not an approved conversion option for this program. Following the success of other incentive programs focusing on landscaping and turf grass removal, the Turf Replacement program aims to combine turf removal, irrigation modification and rainwater retention or filtration to support reuse or soil absorption of rainwater.
The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is a consortium of 26 cities and water districts that provides drinking water to nearly 19 million people in parts of Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties.
Every turf replacement project will include:
3 plants per 100 square feet of area transformed
No hardscape within the transformed area, except permeable hardscape
Replacement or modification of overhead spray sprinklers
Beginning March 4, 2024 Turf Replacement Program applicants will be eligible to receive $100 per tree installed, for a maximum incentive for up to 5 trees ($500) per turf replacement application in addition to the turf replacement incentive.
